XLJAZZ XLJAZZ is een project van BUITENKUNST, geïnitieerd door Arthur Schmidt en GerritJan Binkhorst, waarin nieuw talent en semiprofs in een grote en veelzijdige bezetting, op hoog niveau samenspelen met topsolisten uit de jazz en de wereldmuziek. XLJAZZ geeft ieder jaar in een nieuwe samenstelling rond een ander thema een aantal concerten. Onder leiding van GerritJan Binkhorst trad XLJAZZ met groot succes op met verschillende programma's rond het werk van o.a. Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie, Hermeto Pascoal en Miles Davis. Een aantal stukken is verschenen op de CD XLJAZZ 03-04. Van 2006 tot 2008 stond het orkest onder leiding van saxofonist-componist-arrangeur Joost Dieho. In 2006 met een ode aan het oeuvre van Frank Zappa: Jazz from Hell, in 2007 FUNK-N-FUSION, rond het werk van o.a. Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock en Jaco Pastorius. In 2008 trad XLJAZZ op met eigen stukken van Joost Dieho: Omnivore. In 2009 heeft Martin Fondse het stokje overgenomen met arrangementen van zijn eigen stukken onder de naam: Martian Art. Concerten vinden elk jaar plaats o.a. op Buitenkunst Randmeer, in het BIM-huis in Amsterdam, RASA in Utrecht en LUX in Nijmegen.   XLJAZZ XLJAZZ is a project of BUITENKUNST, initiated by Arthur Schmidt and GerritJan Binkhorst, in which highly advanced amateurs, new talent and semi-professionals play together in a large and multifaceted cast on a high level with top soloists from the jazz and world music scene. Led by GerritJan Binkhorst, XLJAZZ performed very succesfully with several programmes based on the work of Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie, Hermeto Pascoal and Miles Davis. Several pieces appeared on the CD XLJAZZ 03-04. From 2006 till 2008, the orchestra was led by saxophonist-composer-arranger Joost Dieho.
